January 31, 2025

On January 2, 2025, the Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire (CPCNH) announced new electricity supply rates for Portsmouth Community Power (PCP) customers effective February 1, 2025 for the rate period ending July 31, 2025. The Granite Basic default rate for residential and small commercial customers is being set at 8.9 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).

The Granite Plus (33% renewable content) rate for PCP will be 9.6 cents/kWh. The Clean 50 (50% renewable content) will be 10.3 cents/kWh and the Clean 100 (100% renewable content) will be 12.3 cents/kWh. The rate effective February 1, 2025 from Eversource, Portsmouth’s default energy supplier is slightly higher, at 8.929 cents.

In making the announcement, CPCNH commented, “Since the launch of Community Power in New Hampshire, residents and businesses have benefited from significantly lower electricity supply rates. Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire is proud to play a leading role in the expansion of market competition and choice in New Hampshire’s electricity sector, resulting in savings and value for customers.”

CPCNH has reported that as of September 30, 2024, Portsmouth Community Power provided 129,000 megawatt-hours of electricity and had saved electric customers in Portsmouth $2.9 million. PCP currently serves approximately 11,592 electric accounts in the City. Of these accounts, 236 (2 percent) have chosen to “opt-up” to products with higher levels of renewable energy. For the most recent rate period, August 1, 2024 to January 31, 2025, Portsmouth joined a friendly Seacoast Energy Challenge competition with the CPCNH member city of Dover and member towns of Newmarket, Durham and Exeter. The challenge was to see which municipality could persuade their customers to opt-up to levels of renewable power beyond Granite Basic. As of the end of December, Portsmouth and Durham were in a close contest for the honor.

PCP customers are invited to opt-up or opt-out of the program by visiting communitypowernh.gov or by calling 1-866-603-7697. For more information on Portsmouth Community Power, visit portsnh.co/commpower.
