Work to start on Walker Bungalow Road and Sudbury Street on Monday, September 18th

On Monday, September 18th, work will begin on both Walker Bungalow Road and Sudbury Street.

On Walker Bungalow Road, the City’s contractor, John H. Lyman and Sons, will be constructing a water main replacement in the area just north of Shaw Road where utility crews stopped work last fall. The project proposes to install about 280’ of new water pipe in the area – spanning from 137 to 189 Walker Bungalow – in order to eliminate this final section of old water main.

Portsmouth LED Street Light Project 95 Percent Complete

Since April, the Department of Public Works has been working with Eversource and Affinity LED Lighting to assist in converting all of its high pressure sodium (HPS) street lights to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. With this citywide implementation, the City will experience further reductions in energy consumption, costs and light pollution, along with improved visibility and safety on the roads.

Police Instagram

PORTSMOUTH – The Portsmouth Police Department has made another step to keep itself connected to its community through technology by now having a presence on Instagram.

The police department currently has a very strong presence on Facebook, which they joined in 2009, and also has a presence on Twitter, which they joined in 2015. Joining Instagram will give the department more exposure to the millennials of their community as research has shown that Instagram is one of several growing social media platform choices amongst this genre.

Groundbreaking Ceremony for Foundry Place Garage to be held Wednesday, September 6th

PORTSMOUTH, NH – A groundbreaking ceremony to celebrate the beginning of the Foundry Place Garage construction will be held on Wednesday, September 6th at 4:00 p.m. The public is welcome to join members of City Council, City committee members (Garage Building Committee; Economic Development Committee), project representatives (Walker Parking Consultants; Consigli Construction Co., Inc.; Tighe & Bond; DeStefano Architects) and City staff to celebrate the start of developing Portsmouth’s new 600-space garage and subsequent revitalization to the City’s North End.

Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day 2017

On September 5, 2017, Mayor Blalock joined citizens in Market Square to read the Governor’s proclamation of the Portsmouth Peace Treaty Day.

Every year on September 5th, the state of New Hampshire observes the 1905 Portsmouth Peace Treaty, which stands today as one of history's great peace negotiations.

East Coast Greenway River Relay Arriving in Portsmouth Friday, September 1st

PORTSMOUTH, NH – This year the East Coast Greenway (ECG) Alliance, the country’s longest biking and walking route, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Portsmouth will be welcoming an East Coast River Relay team on Friday morning in Prescott Park to help commemorate this occasion and the Greenway’s efforts in connecting 15 states, 450 cities and towns, and 3,000 miles of people-powered trails from Maine to Florida.

Vaughan-Worth-Bridge Strategic Planning Committee to Host Abutter and Business Owner Listening Session

The Mayoral Appointed Vaughan-Worth-Bridge Strategic Planning Committee will host a public Listening Session for Abutters and Business Owners on Tuesday August 29, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at The Music Hall Loft at 131 Congress Street. Abutters and Business Owners impacted by the reuse of the Bridge Street Lot, Worth Lot and Vaughan Mall are encouraged to attend. The Committee’s first listening session was held for the general public in June.

Sobriety Checkpoint Results 08 28 17

August 28, 2017

On Friday, August 25th the Portsmouth Police Department conducted a sobriety checkpoint on Lafayette Road. The checkpoint, which was authorized by the Rockingham County Superior Court, screened drivers heading southbound on Lafayette Road between 10:00 PM and 3:00AM. One hundred ninety (190) drivers were screened five were charged. Assisting in the operation were members of the Portsmouth Police Explorer Post. Those charged are as follows, no booking photos available at this time.
