Sobriety Checkpoints / DWI Enforcement

July 24, 2017

Chief Robert Merner of the Portsmouth Police Department, will continue the effort to apprehend drunk drivers in the City of Portsmouth by conducting a sobriety checkpoint this week. The Rockingham County Superior Court has authorized the checkpoint.

Vehicle accident into gas service station

July 23, 2017

On July 23rd at approximately 7:50 PM. The Portsmouth Fire and Police Department responded to the Buzzy’s Bypass Gas located at 500 Maplewood Ave. for the report of a motor vehicle accident. A 2009 Chevy Pick-up truck being operated by;

Firearm Arrest/Car Breaks

July 20, 2017

Shortly after 6:30 AM this morning Portsmouth Police received a phone call reporting a suspicious male inside of Dunkin Donuts at 531 Islington Street. The male suspect was describes as being “out of it” and was in possession of a firearm. No threats were made and the firearm was described as being removed from the suspect’s waistband and placed on a chair.

Sale of a Controlled Drug / Death Resulting

July 13, 2017

On July 12, 2017, Kelly Barry, age 31, of 30 Second Street Apartment B, Dover, New Hampshire, turned herself in at the Dover Police Department on an arrest warrant by the Portsmouth Police Department and Dover Police Department for the charges of Sale of a Controlled Drug, Death Resulting and Sale of Controlled Drug for selling fentanyl that caused the death of Patrick Swain, age 32, of Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

June 30, 2017

On June 30, 2017 at approximately 12:15 a.m. Portsmouth Police Officers responded to the Dolphin Striker at 15 Bow St. for a fight. As a result of the investigation Police arrested:

Suspicious Person with a Gun Report

On Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at 5:07pm, Officers with the Portsmouth Police Department responded to the Circle K Convenience Store at 2470 Lafayette Road for a report of a man brandishing a firearm in the parking lot.

Youth Summer Basketball League

April 28, 2017

The Portsmouth Police Department acting in a Community Partnership with the Portsmouth Recreation Department will be sponsoring the Summer Youth Basketball league this year for boys and girls who are currently in grades 5, 6, and 7.

Children who are residents of Portsmouth, Greenland, Rye, New Castle, and Newington are eligible to play.

There will be three opportunities for sign ups, and organizational practices on the following dates:

National Drug Take Back Day

On Saturday, April 29, 2017 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm is National Drug Take Back Day. The public can drop off their unwanted prescription drugs at the Portsmouth Police Department. The department also has a permanent drop box available 24/7 for any unwanted prescription drugs.

Public Safety Dispatchers Appreciation Week

April 7, 2017

Mayor Jack Blalock has proclaimed April 9th through April 15th Public Safety Telecommunicator Appreciation Week.

Portsmouth maintains a round-the-clock Public Safety Dispatch Center in its police department. Portsmouth Dispatchers are involved in Fire, Police, and medical emergencies, in addition to dispatching for Public Works emergencies after hours.
