DPW to Conduct Routine Hydrant Flushing Starting April 1, 2024
March 27, 2024The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division begins its seasonal routine flushing of fire hydrants and water mains on Monday, April 1, 2024. The flushing will take place at various locations, Monday through Thursday, between 7 am and 11 pm, and is expected to take six weeks to complete.
Portsmouth DPW Hosts Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on April 13, 2024
March 18, 2024The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual meeting on Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8 am and 12 noon. Proof of residency is required.
Household hazardous waste collections help residents safely dispose of items that can harm their health, the environment and drinking water supplies.

DPW Water Division Seeks Customer Assistance to Identify Material in Private Water Lines
February 6, 2024In November 2023, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued a Lead and Copper Rule Improvement requirement that all water suppliers complete an inventory of the material in all water service lines – the pipes that deliver drinking water from the public water mains into abutting properties. The City of Portsmouth Water Division will visually inspect water service lines where they enter residential and commercial buildings to determine the material type.

November 27, 2023The City’s Parking & Traffic Safety (PTS) Committee is holding a public information meeting on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 6 pm in Council Chambers at City Hall. Just prior to the meeting, at 5:30 pm in Council Chambers, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) is offering an informal opportunity for the public to review the I-95 Sound Barrier Project plans. The sound barrier project is expected to start in Spring 2024 and is part of the NHDOT Ten Year Plan.

City Receives $965,333 Federal Congressionally Directed Spending Grant for Peirce Island Road Resiliency Project
October 16, 2023The City of Portsmouth was notified on September 29, 2023 that it has received $965,333 in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) from the Federal Pre-Disaster Mitigation (PDM) Grant Program through the NH Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management for the Peirce Island Road Resiliency Project. The City applied for the grant for a project to provide consistent access to the Pierce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF), a critical municipal service.
