Eversource invites property owners, residents and businesses along Little Harbor Road to attend a public coordination meeting on Thursday, September 23 at 6:30 pm. Recognized nationally for their expertise in protecting municipal drinking water supplies and systems, the City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division received the Distinguished Public Involvement Award from the New England Water Works Association (NEWWA) “for outstanding achievements, leadership, commitment and support of professional, proactive public relations efforts.” The award was presented during the NEWWA annual meeting, September 7-10, 2021. 

Schools Opening and City of Portsmouth Reminds Drivers to Watch for School Crossings

As planned, ACK Marine, under contract to the City’s Department of Public Works, will begin work Monday, August 23, 2021 on the project to rebuild the seawall at 95 Mechanic Street.

he City of Portsmouth took the Haven Well off-line in 2014 after testing revealed the presence of perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) chemicals in the water at levels that measured higher than the Environmental Protection Agency’s preliminary health advisory level.

The new connector road from Bartlett Street to the Route 1 Bypass opens on Friday, July 16. The new through-street, named “Hodgdon Way,” branches off Cate Street and continues to the Route 1 By-Pass.

The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works will dedicate the new Peirce Island Wastewater Treatment Facility located on Peirce Island in Portsmouth on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at 5 pm. (Facility tours, in small groups, follow remarks.) NH Department of Environment Services Commissioner Robert Scott will tour the facility with DPW Director Peter Rice.

The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division released the latest Water Supply Status Report on May 10, providing an assessment of the water supply quantity and quality available through the Portsmouth Water System. Water use generally increases during the summer months as homeowners start outdoor projects and irrigation. At the same time, the water recharge from rainfall decreases in the summer. Since May 2020, precipitation on the Seacoast was 12 inches, or 28 percent below normal.

The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, May 22, 2021, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8 am and 12 noon. Proof of residency is required.
