Chapel Street between Daniel and Bow Streets will be closed from 7 am to 12 noon on Tuesday, October 1 to perform work on the road surface in front of St. John's Church. Traffic will be rerouted around the area and will be blocked from entering Bow from Market Street. The right turn from Penhallow to Bow will also be blocked.
The City will hold a public meeting on October 3 at 6:30 pm in Conference Room A at City Hall, to update the neighborhood and other interested residents on the plans for rebuilding the seawall and reconstructing the wharf. The plan must be implemented in phases, because to keep the pumping station in operation, the new station must be built in an adjacent location. The meeting is intended to discuss opportunities presented by the reconfiguration of the site that might be included in the master plan for the property.
MONDAY night, September 30, overnight work on the water system on Islington Street will require shutting down the water main between 11 PM and 4 AM.
On Monday, September 30 Electric Light Company of Cape Neddick, under contract to the City, begins installation of a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) system adjacent to the Memorial Bridge parking lot on Dutton Avenue (the road that splits left from State Street just before the bridge). The pedestrian-activated push-button RRFB Pedestrian Crosswalk Systems are proven to increase driver awareness and response by as much as 90%.
