NHDES Installs Temporary Air Quality Monitoring Devices Near Railyard
December 17, 2021The City of Portsmouth has authorized the NH Department of Environmental Services (NHDES) to place temporary air quality monitoring devices in locations surrounding the Foundry Place Garage. The air quality study was authorized by NHDES in response to City concerns regarding air quality complaints from the neighborhood and residents’ reports of emissions from locomotives in the railyard.

City of Portsmouth DPW Begins Sewer Force Main Construction on Peirce Island Nov 29
December 4, 2021Contractors for the City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works will begin work on a project to replace sewer force mains on Peirce Island on Monday, November 29, 2021, and continuing to June 2022. Construction and equipment on and adjacent to Peirce Island Road and on the Peirce Island Road Bridge will impede traffic, on an intermittent basis, on weekdays between 7 am and 6 pm.
City Sewer Flow Assessment on Lafayette Road and Maple Haven Neighborhoods Planned Starting Mon Night December 6
December 4, 2021In order to update its existing knowledge of the sewer line in the neighborhoods around Ocean Road and Lafayette Road, the City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works will conduct a flow isolation and infiltration assessment, starting at midnight on Monday, December 6, 2021. The work is scheduled to take place between midnight and 6 am, through December 10, 2021, weather permitting.

City Parking Division Phases Out EasyPark Program
October 12, 2021EasyParkUSA has notified New Hampshire cities participating in its EasyPark program that the company has begun phasing out their on-dash devices. EasyParkUSA has already discontinued the sale of new devices, although existing customers will be able to continue to use their devices in any participating New Hampshire city, and use up any remaining balance on their accounts, until December 31, 2021. At that time, all accounts will be closed and no further service fees will be charged.
City hosts Household Hazardous Waste Day October 30
October 4, 2021The Portsmouth Department of Public Works will hold its biannual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at the Public Works facility at 680 Peverly Hill Road. Residents of Portsmouth, Greenland and Newington are encouraged to bring household chemicals for safe disposal between 8 am and 12 noon. Proof of residency is required.
DPW Conducts Routine Hydrant and Water Main Flushing on Monday, October 14, 2021
September 30, 2021The City of Portsmouth Department of Public Works Water Division begins its annual routine flushing of fire hydrants and water mains on Monday, October 4, 2021. The flushing will take place at various locations, Monday through Thursday, between 7 am and 11 pm, for the next six weeks.
City to Hold Peverly Hill Road Improvement Project Public Use and Necessity Hearing on October 14, 2021
September 28, 2021The Portsmouth City Council will conduct an onsite review and then hold a public hearing in City Hall Council Chambers on Thursday, October 14, 2021 for the purpose of receiving evidence and hearing public comment relative to the layout of the Peverly Hill Road Improvement Project and the property acquisitions (permanent and temporary easements) to make that project successful.
